Custom Injection Molding
The method
of Custom Injection Molding manufacturing involves heating plastic resin to high temperatures
and forcing the liquid plastic under extreme pressure into a steel
mold. The mold is chilled, which in turn, rapidly cools the part to the
point where it can be ejected and handled. This is all done within seconds. This is the ultimate method to achieve intricate shapes, high levels of
detail, and varied wall thicknesses. For extruded plastics with a continuous profile see Plastic Extrusions.
Depending on your
application, literally thousands of materials can be used. These range
from polypropylene used in toys, to nylon and acetal used in engineering
grade applications. Parts can be strengthened by glass or graphite additives.
Materials resistant to high temperature and harsh chemicals can also be molded. SRG helped develop a product that combined nylon,
copper, and tungsten in order to reach a desired specific gravity. The
possibilities are endless.
